Art of Words Oratorical Scholarship Contest

Offered annually, the Art of Words Oratorical Scholarship Contest challenges students to combat local and national issues through the power of words. Participants are asked to prepare a 5-7 minute oration on a given topic. Winners are scored based on originality of thought, depth of analysis, persuasiveness, organization, clarity and articulation of speech. The 1st prizewinner receives a $500.00 academic scholarship. Black State of the U Summit

The Black State of the U Summit began in 2006 as a forum for African American students to voice their concerns regarding the state of Black students at the University of Miami. Since then it has grown to tackle more issues faced by students such as financial assistance, resources, and overall wellness. The Black State of the U Summit is held biennially.

Delta Moves U

This initiative is aimed at promoting physical and mental health through providing exercise, fitness and nutritional classes for college students building a healthy lifestyle. Some of the events have included yoga, dodgeball, and flag football.

cultuRED

This program is a monthly documentary series that focuses on international women’s issues. Following each documentary there is a discussion about the specific documentary and the issue that it covers.

Red Alert

The is a year long health initiative created to educate college students on their overall health and promote physical activity; administered health assessments, coordinated interactive exercises, hosted educational sessions on various issues take place.
